Josh Rouse needs some love.
I can't believe this journal has been inactive for so long!
The video for 'Quiet Town' is perfect.
I love his sound and his music.. everything.

Does anyone know if he's still on Nettwork records?
His Myspace says differently.

[music |Josh Rouse "Marvin Gaye"]

I just discovered Josh Rouse yesterday. His track "Winter in the Hamptons" was on an UNCUT magazine best of 2005 compilation CD. I couldn't believe how moved I was. And-the strange thing was that I discovered exactly WHY I instantly loved him. He grew up idolizing the Cure and the Smiths. Lots of obvious connections there... I bought almost every album from itunes.

[mood |excitedexcited]

from Josh's notify list email; thought I'd post it here for those (if any) who don't subscribe to it. If anyone doesn't, but wants to, there's a link on his site.

Have you missed Josh Rouse? We have, too. He's certainly been busy since the
heavily lauded release of his last album, Nashville (Rykodisc, early 2005).
Living in beautiful Valencia, Spain and recording incessantly, the prolific Mr.
Rouse has been chipping away at something very, very special. We'll tell you
more about it later. But for now...Read more...Collapse )

Yay! I'm really excited. A little worried though, as the Australian iTunes store is veerrry dodgy (Apple only released the store here a few weeks ago, and it's great if you want to buy music from Aussie artists, but absolutely shit otherwise) and I wouldn't expect this EP to be avaliable. Also, no tour here. Still, yay!

Hey guys, don't forget to go out and get your copy of Nashville! It came out yesterday.

JR's manager sent me the lyrics to it so they're up on my site already.

Also, check out the tour section on his site, there are dates in the US. I know I'll be seeing him in Philadelphia :)

new album - Nashville [Dec. 20th, 2004|04:50 pm]

Rouse Readies "Nashville"
Singer-songwriter sticks to his guns on fifth album

Josh Rouse will release his fifth album, Nashville, next March. Named for Nebraska-born Rouse's adopted hometown (where the set was crafted), the upcoming disc was recorded by Brad Jones, who also produced the singer-songwriter's acclaimed 2003 disc, 1972.

Rouse is proud of the simplicity of the record's sound. "It's the sound of a band in a room, and it's quite nice, actually," he says. And while other artists are clamoring to claim new territory, Rouse is happy to mine the same terrain, acknowledging similarities between the new record and its predecessor. "It's exactly the same," he says with perfect confidence. "Why would we change anything?"

Tracks will include "It's the Nighttime," which Rouse calls "a hooky tune with pedal steel and Fleetwood Mac keyboards," and "Winter in the Hamptons," which Rouse cites as "Smiths-ish, with more hooks." But the artist counts "My Love Has Gone" as his pick of the new set. "It's my favorite," he confesses. "It just has a great swing."

Rouse will launch a stateside tour in support of Nashville next spring, before heading to Europe.
